Personal

Originally from Charlotte, NC, Stephen grew up in a 4th Generation family of influential finance, retail and real estate entrepreneurs and investors throughout the Carolinas.  Prior to starting his own firm, Collins Enterprises, his father was President of the Collins Department Stores in the 1970’s.  The highly successful department store chain was started in 1903 by Stephen’s great grandfather in Spartanburg, SC and was the main rival to Belk Department Stores based in Charlotte, NC at close to 200 stores located throughout the Southeastern US during its peak in the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s.  Starting at the age of 3, Stephen competed at the highest levels of tennis internationally as a member of the US Junior National Tennis Team and professional as a member of the ATP Tour.  With a passion for sports and competition, as well as the arts, culture, history and philosophy, he is also an adventure enthusiast, avid outdoorsman and world traveler, having traveled extensively across five different continents and camped across the US for three months.  Stephen is a member of The Vinoy Club in St Petersburg, FL and The Country Club of Charleston in Charleston, SC, and currently resides with his family in St Petersburg, FL.
